The Project to Build the Monument

The project to build the monument started some years before the unveiling in 18 September 2005.  Various steps along the way can be seen by clicking on the links below.

The original idea came from the Battle of Britain Historical Society.  From there a Fund Raising Committee was formed which had to:

• Find a location for the monument
• Find a sculptor to design it

• Manage the entire foundry process including monitoring progress and the making of the friezes

Manage the construction and installation on site:

• The bronzes arriving on site
• Early progress on site
• Dismantling the existing structure
• Start of construction
• Presenting a macquette to the Queen
• Taking some of the surviving flyers to Belguim

• Raise funds from supporters and sponsors in Britain and around the world including Canada

• Arrange the unveiling
