Queen Presented with Monument Maquette

Queen Presented with Monument Maquette

Queen Elizabeth II was presented with a maquette (small bronze model) of part of the monument at a ceremony in Buckingham Palace. The monument will honour the airmen who fought under RAF fighter command between July and October 1940.The Queen showed great interest in the entire project and discussed details with the members of the fundraising committee who made the presentation.

She also expressed her support for this memorial to all those to took part and lived through the battle.

The maquette was presented by (from left to right) Lord Tebbit (Chairman of the fundraising committee), Paul Day (the monument sculptor), Bill Bond (founder of the Battle of Britain Historical Society) and Maurice Djanogly (Deputy Chairman of the fundraising committee).

The maquette is now on display in Buckingham Palace.
