The Airmen's Stories - W/O W G Snape

 

William George Snape was born in 1897 in Gloucestershire. His father was a civil engineer and surveyor.

He enlisted in the RFC in 1915 and transferred to the RAF on 1st April 1918. At some time later he remustered as an Airman u/t Air Gunner and was serving with 25 Squadron at Northolt at the outbreak of war.

He was promoted to Warrant Officer on 12th January 1940. He married Hilda Shields Robinson in the same month.

Snape served with 25 Squadron throughout the Battle of Britain.

He is last mentioned in the squadron ORB on 21st December 1940.

Commissioned in the Technical Branch (Signals) in July 1942, Snape was released from the RAF in 1946 as a Flying Officer.

He died on 22nd August 1955 in Willesden and was buried in Hendon cemetery on 26th August.
