The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. G E Smith

 

Godfrey Ernest Smith was born on 1st December 1919 and joined the RAFVR in October 1939 as an Airman u/t Air Gunner. The 1939 Census recorded his trade as 'Flour Mill clerk'.

He completed his training and joined 264 Squadron at Kirton-in-Lindsey in October 1940. He went to 256 Squadron at Catterick on 16th December 1940.

His subsequent service is currently undocumented, he was commissioned in May 1942.

Smith was released from the RAF in 1946 as a Flight Lieutenant.

He died in March 1980 in Swansea.
