The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. W J P Sheppard

 

Walter John Patrick Sheppard was born on 23rd July 1920, his background is currently undocumented until his posting to 236 Squadron on 4th October 1940 as an Observer.

He flew an operational sortie on 11th October with P/O CL Roman as pilot.

He must have been subsequently posted away as he is next recorded as serving with 82 Squadron.

On the night of 3rd/4th December 1940 Blenheim IV N3594 UX-F of 82 Squadron force landed in Holland after taking off from Bodney during Operation Essen to bomb the Ruhr. Sheppard was made prisoner along with Sgt. WHM Butcher and Sgt. J Ferguson.

They were sent ot Stalag IXB Fallingbostel.

Sheppard died in April 1995 in Beverley.
