The Airmen's Stories - Sgt. J N Senior

 

John Norman Senior of Maidenhead, Berkshire was born in 1920, the son of Norman Georgeson Senior (1879-1967) and Winifred Maud Senior (nee Banks 1881-1929) of Maidenhead.

He joined the RAFVR in June 1939 as an Airman u/t Pilot.

Called up on 1st September 1939, he carried out his elementary training at 10 EFTS Yatesbury. He moved on to 3 FTS South Cerney for No. 34 Course which ran from 28th April to 3rd August 1940.

Senior arrived at 5 OTU Aston Down on 3rd August. After converting to Blenheims he joined 23 Squadron at Wittering on 18th August 1940.

Senior was killed on 21st March 1941 in Blenheim IV V5815 of No. 3 Radio School which flew into the ground near Cumnock in Ayrshire whilst descending through cloud.

Sgt. RSS Aitken, Sgt. DC Morrison and LAC JA Mitchell were also killed.

Senior was 20 years old.

He is buried in Maidenhead Cemetery.
